At the turn of the century a young Frenchman named George de Latour arrived in the Napa Valley with a single purpose: Create wines as fine as any in the world. He purchased a four-acre parcel of unimproved property in the town of Rutherford. Moved by the pristine beauty of the scenery before him, he dubbed the land "Beaulieu" or "beautiful place." He grew many different grape varieties at the Beaulieu estate, soon discovering that exceptional Cabernet was produced in Rutherford soil.
