Although Warren did not purchase Fay Vineyard until 1986, he tastes wine which Nathan Fay had made in 1968 and was so impressed that he began to seek vineyard land in the same area. In 1970 he found a 44 acre plot of land situated next to Fay Vineyard. In soil, microclimate, and location, this land was ideal for the style of Cabernet which Warren wished to grow. The vineyard has become known internationally as Stag's Leap Vineyards, more commonly referred to simply as S.L.V.: It is the estate grown grapes of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars.
